Child Adoption & Fostering

Our Vision for Adoption

Every child deserves a home, every home deserves a child.”

At Life Compassionate Orphanage, we have proudly helped over 90 children find permanent families through legal adoption. Our aim is to connect children with caring families where they can grow, flourish, and lead meaningful lives.

Local Adoption Process

We work closely with the Director of Child in the Ministry of Women Affairs & Social Welfare, Awka, Anambra State, to ensure every adoption is conducted legally and ethically.

Step-by-Step Guide to Local Adoption

We work closely with the Director of Child in the Ministry of Women Affairs & Social Welfare, Awka, Anambra State, to ensure every adoption is conducted legally and ethically.

Here are the steps to local adoption

  1. Apply

Write a formal letter of request to the Commissioner, Ministry of Women Affairs & Social Development, Awka.

  1. Interview

Attend an interview. If approved, you’ll receive an adoption clearance and a list of registered orphanages (including ours).

  1. Child Selection

Visit orphanages and select a child. The orphanage will forward the child’s case file for approval.

  1. Ministry Investigation

The ministry investigates the file (medical, police, and social reports).

  1. Handover & Probation

Upon approval, the child is handed over for a 3-month probation period.

  1. Legalization

After probation, the ministry presents the child in family court for legal adoption.

  1. Final Approval

You receive final documentation and legal guidance from the Director of Child in the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Awka.

Note: Local adoption is only available to Anambra State indigenes or those with relatives residing in Anambra State.

International Adoption Process

If you reside outside Nigeria, international adoption is possible but follows a different, more regulated path.

  1. Start in Your Home Country: Begin the process with your country’s government and obtain official adoption clearance.

  2. Visit Our Ministry: Submit your sealed documents to the Commissioner at Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka.

  3. Receive Clearance Letter: After approval, you'll get an official letter and contact info for government-approved orphanages (including ours).

  4. Select a Child: Visit orphanages, find a child, and get consent from the orphanage for processing.

  5. Documentation Review: The child’s full case file (Medical reports, Police investigation report, facts from the home, the consent of the social mother if available) is submitted to the Ministry for investigation.

  6. Ministry Approval: If successful, the Ministry will issue a Letter of Authority for the child’s release.

  7. Bonding Period & Court Order: After a required bonding period, a family court order is issued to finalize the adoption and allow the child to legally travel abroad.
